Karva Chauth Fast Story

A moneylender had seven sons and one daughter. Sethani and her daughters-in-law and daughter had observed the fast of Karva Chauth. When Sahkar's boys started having dinner at night, he asked his sister for food. On this, the sister said that today she is fasting and can eat food only after offering water to the moon. The youngest brother is unable to see his sister's condition and he lights a lamp on a distant tree and keeps it under a sieve. Which appears as if it is the moon of Chaturthi. Seeing him, Karva offers him Arghya and sits down to eat. As soon as she puts the first piece in her mouth she sneezes. When she puts the second piece, hair comes out in it and when she puts the third piece in her mouth, she gets the news of her husband's death. She becomes unfortunate.

Her sister-in-law tells the truth as to why this happened to her. The gods have become angry with him due to the wrong breaking of the fast. On this, Karva decides that she will not perform the last rites of her husband and will bring him back to life through her chastity. She sits near her husband's dead body for an entire year. Takes care of him. She keeps collecting the needle-like grass growing on it.

After a year, when the day of Chauth comes, she keeps a fast and in the evening requests the married women that 'Take Yam Sui, give me Piya Sui, make me a married woman like you' but everyone refuses. At last, a married woman agrees to his request. In this way, her fast is completed and her husband gets the blessings of a new life. All the fasting women read and listen to this story in a slightly different way.
