Stories Of 9 Incarnations Of Maa Durga


1. Shailputri - Shailputri is the first form of Goddess Durga. She is the daughter of the king of the mountains - the Himalayas. King Himalaya and his wife Menaka performed many austerities as a result of which Mother Durga descended on the earth as their daughter. Then she was named Shailputri i.e. (Shail = mountain and daughter = daughter). Mata is the vehicle of Shailputri, there is a bull and there is a trident in his right hand, and a lotus flower in his left hand.

In the Daksha Yajna, the holy mother sacrificed her body in the form of Sati. After that, the mother again became the divine wife of Lord Shiva. His story is very inspiring.

2. Brahmacharini - (Brahma = penance), Mata Durga In this form she holds a chanting garland in her right hand and a kamandAal in her left hand. On the advice of Narada Muni, Mother Brahmacharini did austerity to get Shiva. There is a lot of power in the holy mother.

In order to attain liberation, Mother Shakti came to know Brahm Gyan and for that reason, she is worshiped as Brahmacharini. Mata imparts supreme sacred knowledge to her devotees.

3. Chandraghanta - This is the third form of Mata Durga. Moonlight means moonlight. It is the form of Mother providing the ultimate peace. Worshiping the Mother brings peace and happiness. He is like a fast gold and his vehicle is a lion. He has ten arms and many types of weapons like Kadag, Band, Trishul, and Padma Phool are in his hands.

Worshiping Maa Chandraghanta removes sins and hardships through the terrible sound of their valleys.

4. Kushmanda - Kushmanda is the fourth form of Mata Durga. When there was nothing on the earth and darkness was everywhere, Mother Kushmanda gave birth to the creation. Mata used to live in Surya Lok at that time. He also created energy in the universe.

Mata Kushmanda has eight arms, hence she is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi. Their vehicle is a lion and in the hands of the mother, there are kamandaAls, chakras, lotus flowers, Amrit Matka, and chanting garlands. Mata Kushmanda is the goddess of purity, worshiping her removes all diseases and sorrows.

5. Skandmata - Skandamata is the fifth form of Mata Durga. Maa Durga married Lord Shiva to give the right offerings and blessings to the deities. During the battle between the Asuras and the Gods, the Gods needed a leader of their own. Kartik, son of Shiva Parvati Ji, also known as Skanda, became the leader of the gods.

Kartik / Skanda is kept by Mata Parvati Mata sitting on her lap while sitting on her vehicle lion so she is worshiped by the name of Skandamata. She has 4 arms, holding the mother lotus flower in the upper hand and the one below. Mother gives a boon by hand and holds Karthik with another.

The worship of Skandamata fulfills all the wishes of the devotees.

6. Katyayani - Maa Katyayani is the sixth form of Durga Mata. Maharishi Katyayana was a great scholar who had been doing rigorous penance in his ashram to bring an end to Mahishasura. One day Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwar appeared to him together. The three trinities together revealed their power to Mother Durga. It happened a full night on the 14th day of Ashwin month.

Maharishi Katyayana was the first to worship Mata Durga, hence the name of Mother Durga is called Maa Katyayani and the festival of Navratri is celebrated on the seventh, eighth, and ninth day of the full Ujwal night of Ashwin month. The tenth day is considered to be the end of Mahishasura.

Mata Katyayani is considered the goddess of purity. Mata Katyayani has four hands, in her upper right hand she displays the posture that gives freedom from fear, and in her lower right hand, she holds the blessing posture, in the upper left hand she holds the sword, and in the lower left holds the lotus flower. Worshiping them leads to wealth and liberation.

7. Kalratri - Maa Kalratri is the seventh form of Durga. His name is Kaal Ratna because he is also the destruction of Kaal. She can destroy everything. Kaalratri means the night of darkness. Their rand is black followed by scattered and flying. Their body is fast like fire.

They have a donkey there and in their right hand, they are in a blessing posture, and in the lower right hand, the mother offers fearlessness. She holds a mace in her left hand and an iron skewer in her lower left hand.

Her fierce form is terrible, but she always helps her devotees, so she has another name Bhayankari. Worshiping them gives them freedom from the fear of ghosts, snakes, fire, floods, and terrible animals.

8. Mahagauri - Mahagauri is the eighth form of Maa Durga. Goddess Parvati's color was Savala and this is why Mahadev Shiva called her Kalika. Later Mata Parvati did penance due to which Shiva was pleased and she put Ganga water on Mata Parvati and gave her a fair complexion. From then on Mata Parvati came to be known as Mahagauri.

His vehicle is a bull and with his upper right hand, the mother blesses and holds the trident in the lower right hand. In the upper left hand is her Damaru and with the lower hand, she gives boons and blessings.

The worshipers of Mahagauri worship the devotees to get rid of confusion and end suffering, and misery in life.

9. Siddhidatri - The ninth form of Mata Durga is named Siddhidatri. She is not because she is called the mother of accomplishment. Sehi Shivji, compassionate to Mata Siddhidatri, got the form of Ardhanarishvara. His vehicle is a lion and his seat is a lotus flower.

In his upper right hand, the mother holds a mace and in the lower right hand is a chakram. A mother holds a lotus flower in her upper left hand and a conch in her lower left hand. Mata Siddhidatri gives all the wishes of her devotees.
