Islam is a monotheistic religion, based on the teachings of the Quran, the final divine book delivered to humans by Muhammad, the last messenger and prophet from Allah. The word Islam means: 'Surrender to Allah'. Thus, a Muslim has dedicated himself to Allah. That means started following the rules of Islam religion. 

The basic principle of the religion of Islam is to believe in Allah as the Almighty, the only God and the protector of the world, and Hazrat Muhammad as his messenger or prophet. The same thing is repeated in his 'Kalma': 'La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah'. That is, 'Allah is one, there is no other (other entity) other than Him and Muhammad is His Messenger or Prophet.'

Important Facts Related To Islam Religion

(1) The founder of the Islam religion was Hazrat Muhammad.

(2) Hazrat Muhammad was born in Mecca in 570 AD.

(3) Hazrat Muhammad attained enlightenment in 610 AD in a cave named Hira near Mecca.

(4) The Prophet's journey from Mecca to Medina on 24th September is known as Muslim Samvat in the world of Islam.

(5) Hazrat Muhammad was married to a widow named Khadija at the age of 25.

(6) Hazrat Muhammad's daughter's name is Fatima and their son-in-law's name is Ali Hussain.

(7) Angel Gabriel communicated the Quran in the Arabic language to Prophet Muhammad.

(8) The Quran is the holy book of Islamic religion.

(9) Prophet Muhammad preached the teachings of the Quran.

(10) Hazrat Muhammad died on 8 June 632 AD. He was buried in Medina.

(11) After the death of Hazrat Muhammad, Islam was divided into two sects, Shia and Sunni.

(12) Sunni means those who believe in Sunna. Sunna is the description of the sayings and actions of Hazrat Muhammad.

(13) Shias believe in the teachings of Ali and consider him the successor of Hazrat Muhammad. Ali was the son-in-law of Hazrat Muhammad.

(14) Ali was murdered in the year 661. Ali's son Hussain was murdered in Karbala in 680. These killings gave Shia the shape of a definite belief.

(15) The successors of Hazrat Muhammad were called Caliphs.

(16) The post of Caliph in the Islamic world remained till 1924 AD. It was abolished by Turkish ruler Mustafa Kemalpasha in 1924.

(17) Ibn Ishaq was the first to write the biography of Hazrat Muhammad.

(18) Hazrat Muhammad's birthday is celebrated as Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.
