Why is Valentine's Day Celebrated?

Valentine's Day is named after a person whose name is Valentine. The beginning of this love day story is not one filled with love.

This story is about the encounter between an evil king and a kind saint Valentine. This day begins in the third century of Rome where there used to be a tyrannical king named Claudius.

The King of Rome believed that a single soldier could become a better and more effective soldier for the war than a married soldier because the married soldier was always worried about what would happen to him after his death. What will happen to the family?

And because of this worry, he is unable to give his full attention in the battle. Thinking this, King Claudius announced that no soldier in his kingdom would marry and anyone who violated his order would be given severe punishment.

All the soldiers were saddened by this decision of the king and they also knew that this decision was wrong but due to fear of the king, no one dared to violate it and were forced to follow his orders.

But Rome's Saint Valentine did not approve of this injustice at all, so he secretly helped the young soldiers and got them married.

Any soldier who wanted to marry his girlfriend would go to Valentine to ask for help and Valentine would also help them and get them married. Similarly, Valentine had organized secret marriages of many soldiers.

But the truth does not remain hidden for long, some day or the other it comes out in front of everyone. Similarly, the news about Valentine's act also reached the ears of King Claudius.

Valentine did not follow the king's orders, so the king sentenced Valentine to death and he was put in jail.

Valentine was waiting for his death date inside the jail and one day a jailer named Asterius came to him. The people of Rome said that Valentine had a divine power using which he could free people from diseases.

Asterius had a blind daughter and he knew about the magical power possessed by Valentine, so he went to Valentine and requested him to cure his daughter's eyesight with his divine power.

Valentine was a good-hearted person and he helped everyone, so he also helped the jailer and cured his blind daughter's eyes with his power.

From that day onwards, there was a deep friendship between Valentine and Asterius' daughter and they did not even know when that friendship turned into love. Asterius' daughter was deeply shocked by the thought that Valentine was going to die.

And finally, that day had come on 14th February on which Valentine was going to be hanged. Before his death, Valentine asked for a pen and paper from the jailor, and in that paper, he wrote a goodbye message for the jailor's daughter, at the end of the page he wrote "Your Valentine", these are the words which people still remember.

Because of this sacrifice of Valentine, 14th February was named after him and on this day all the loving people all over the world remember Valentine and share love with each other.

On this day, all the loving people express their love for their beloved by giving flowers, gifts, and chocolates.
