According to beliefs, this puja was celebrated even before the Vedas and scriptures were written. In ancient times, sages used to start Chhath Puja by worshiping Lord Surya. However, the history of Chhath Puja is linked to Lord Shri Ram in folk stories. According to this, both Sita and Ram used to worship the auspicious God. Chhath Puja Story

If we discuss the story of Chhath Puja, then many types of beliefs and traditions are prevalent in relation to it. The first tradition prevalent about it is that when the Pandavas lost their kingdom after losing in gambling, Draupadi decided to perform Chhath Puja.

He had taken a vow and had said that if he got the throne again, he would worship Mata Chhath Maiya with great enthusiasm and after the victory of Pandavas in the war of Mahabharata, Draupadi started worshiping Mata Chhath Maiya with great rituals. Since then the tradition of celebrating Chhath Puja started. The puja items are also related to Lord Shri Ram

When Lord Shri Ram returned to his city after 14 years of exile, he along with his wife Sita went to the Saryu River and offered water to Lord Surya Dev and also worshiped him. After this, the tradition of celebrating Chhath Puja started because of Lord Surya Mata.

Chhath was mother's brother and there is a lot of love between them. You must have heard about Danveer Karna. Danveer Karna was also a worshiper of Lord Surya. He used to offer water to him regularly, and because of that Chhath Puja was celebrated. Because Lord Surya is also worshiped in Chhath Puja. There is another story popular in relation to Chhath Puja. It is said that Priyamvad and Malini used to be king and queen, they had no children.

He said that after rigorous penance, a child was born, but when the child was born, he died immediately. After this, the king went to the cremation ground to give up his life in separation from him. Then, Devasena, the mental daughter of God, appeared and helped the king. Told him that he should worship me as per the rituals, if he does so then his child will be alive.

After this, the king worshiped Goddess Devsena with great joy and pomp and as a result, he got a son and since then Chhath Puja has been celebrated. The tradition of celebrating started because it is said that performing Chhath Puja results in a longer life for the son.

Story Of Chhath Puja

If we discuss the story of Chhath Mata, it is quite old and somewhat traditional. It is said that when Pandavas lost their kingdom in gambling, his wife Draupadi took a vow to worship Chhath Mata and told him that If he gets all the governors back then he will worship Chhath Mata. After that, when Pandavas defeated Kauravas in the war and captured the kingdom, the Draupati worshiped Mata Chhath.

Since then, the tradition of celebrating Chhath Puja started. Apart from this, After killing Ravana, Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years, and on the sixth day of Diwali in Ayodhya, he observed Shashthi fast along with his wife Sita on the banks of river Saryu and offered Arghya to the setting sun. The next day, after offering Arghya to the rising sun, he took charge of the Rajpath, from then onwards the tradition of celebrating Chhath Puja started.
