My greetings to all the dignitaries present on the dais,

As we gather here today to celebrate the 75th Republic Day of our great nation, let us reflect on the journey that has brought us here. Seventy-four years ago, on this day, India became a sovereign, democratic republic with a constitution that guarantees equal rights and opportunities to all its citizens, regardless of their religion, caste, or gender.

But our journey here has not been easy. For centuries, India was ruled by foreign powers who exploited our resources, silenced our voices, and treated us worse than animals. The struggle for independence was long and arduous, in which countless brave men and women laid down their lives.

After nearly 200 years of British rule, India finally gained its independence on August 15, 1947. But the freedom struggle was not over yet. The newly independent nation was faced with the daunting task of building a new, democratic society from scratch, while simultaneously dealing with the challenges of poverty, illiteracy, and communal tension.

It was in this context that the Constituent Assembly, consisting of elected representatives from across the country, came together to draft a constitution for the new Republic of India. The task was immense – creating a document that would provide a framework for governing a diverse, multicultural, and multilingual country of more than 400 million people. After nearly three years of intense debate and discussion, the Constitution of India was finally adopted on November 26, 1949. It came into force on January 26, 1950, and since then January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day.

The Constitution of India is a living document, which has evolved over time to reflect our people's changing needs and aspirations. It is the longest-written constitution in the world with 448 articles, 12 schedules, and 97 amendments. But fundamentally, the Constitution is a document of hope and aspiration, a vision for a better future for all Indians. It establishes the fundamental rights and duties of citizens and sets out the powers and responsibilities of the various organs of the state.

It guarantees the right to equality, liberty, and justice for all and prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, or language. It also provides for the protection of minorities and the promotion of their cultural and educational rights. The Constitution also sets out the principles of federalism, with a clear division of powers between the Center and the States. It provides for a parliamentary system of government, with the President as the head of state and the Prime Minister as the head of government.

The constitution also establishes an independent judiciary, with the Supreme Court as the highest court of appeal. Judiciary plays a vital role in protecting the rights and liberties of the citizens and interpreting the constitution and laws of the country.

As school students, it is our responsibility to learn and understand the principles and values that form the foundation of our nation. We should also strive to be good citizens, respect the rights and freedoms of others, and commit to building a just and inclusive society. But just knowing about these principles and values is not enough. We must also live by them in our thoughts, words, and deeds. We must be ready to speak up for what is right and stand up for those who are marginalized or disadvantaged.

We should also be actively involved in the democratic process by exercising our right to vote and engaging with our elected representatives. Only through active citizenship can we ensure that our voices are heard and that our democracy remains strong and vibrant.

Our commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous, and more united India. Let us resolve to work towards a future where every Indian, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to live a life of dignity and fulfillment.

We are currently facing many challenges with many ups and downs – the coronavirus pandemic, the economic downturn, and social and political divisions that threaten to divide us. But these challenges also provide us with an opportunity – to come together, support each other, and build a better future for all.

Let us remember the sacrifices and struggles of those who fought for our freedom, and let us honor their legacy by building a nation that lives up to its vision. Let us also remember the values that our Constitution upholds – equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity – and let us try to incorporate these values into our daily lives.

“We are Indians, firstly and lastly.” These words spoken by Dr. BR Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution, remind us of our common identity as Indians and the bonds that bind us as one nation. Irrespective of our religion, caste, language, or region, we are all children of this land, and we must remain united in our diversity.

“Republic is a dream. A dream that the people of India have cherished for centuries. A dream that inspired and sustained us through the toughest of times. A dream that has given us hope and a reason to live."

These words by our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru remind us of the ideals that inspired the struggle for independence, and the vision that guides us as a nation. Republic is not just a political entity, but a living, breathing idea, which has the power to inspire and transform.

Religion does not teach to hate each other,
Hindi is our country, India is ours

These words remind us of the importance of national unity and harmony. It is our duty to respect the beliefs and practices of others and to strive toward a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. These words remind us of the sacrifices and struggles of those who fought for our freedom and upheld the values of patriotism and selfless service. Let us remember his legacy and try to make his sacrifice worthwhile. Jai Hind!
