Holi Essay - How To Prepare For The Festival Of Holi

Everyone starts preparing for the festival of Holi in their own way. The beginning of the month of Phagun brings with it the message of farewell to the cold and the weather starts getting pleasant. There is also a tradition of singing Phag at this festival, something seems incomplete without Phag folk songs. Earlier, people used to know only after listening to the fog that Holi was about to come. Along with dholak, Manjire and harmonium, people win hearts with their succulent fag singing skills. Phag competitions are also organized on this occasion.

Children have a special enthusiasm for the festival of Holi. They start collecting wood for Holika Dahan long back. Wood is easily available in the villages, but the children of the cities look for the defective furniture of the houses and make arrangements by asking others apart from their home. Everyone contributes wood in the preparation of Holika. Women get involved in preparing sweets, Namkeens, and Gujiyas for the people who come to meet them at home for the festival of Holi. A stock of color and Gulal is prepared. The festival begins with Holika Dahan on the full moon of Falgun month and the next day the colorful festival of Holi is celebrated. People go to each other's house and apply colors and Gulal and wish Holi. Urban culture has given birth to Holi Milan programs in which political parties, organizations organize Holi Milan programs.

Why Celebrate Holi - History Of Holi

There is a legend associated with the beginning of Holi. According to a legend in Vishnu Purana, Asuraraj Hiranyakashipu had banned Vishnu worship in his kingdom. But his son Prahlad turned out to be a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and was absorbed in his devotion day and night. Failing to somehow stop Prahlad from worshiping the Lord, he ordered Prahlad to be killed. When he could not kill Prahlad even after being crushed under the feet of an elephant and thrown from the mountain, Hiranyakashipu planned to burn Prahlad with the help of his sister's Holika.

Holika had got a boon that she would not burn in the fire. So she sat on a pile of wood with Prahlad in her lap and was set on fire. The child Prahlad, sitting in the lap of this Holika, kept on chanting the name of God and his hair did not even budge while Holika, who was blessed with a boon, was burnt to ashes due to her evil desires. Since then the festival of Holi is being celebrated to commemorate the victory of good over evil.

Social Evils Related To Holi

Some people do not hesitate to defame a festival of religious importance like Holi. Some anti-social elements go out of their way by consuming drugs and are seen creating a ruckus. Some people burn tires in Holika, they do not realize that it causes a lot of damage to the environment. Some people do the dirty work of applying paint and grease to the place of paint and Gulal, due to which there is a possibility of physical harm to people.
